Rev Dr Sunny serves as Assembly Associate General Secretary, leading the Assembly Resourcing Unit – a team responsible for the oversight of the national work of the UCA including doctrine, worship, ministry education standards, social justice and advocacy and ecumenical and interfaith relationships. The ARU is undertaking the Act2 Stream A work as part of their broader responsibilities on behalf of the Assembly. Sunny previously served as a Presbytery Minister, supporting around 70 congregations in Melbourne while resourcing the Synod through the ‘Equipping Leadership for Mission’ unit.
In his early journey with the Uniting Church, he served in lay leadership roles including Church Council Chair, youth worker, and pastor, before becoming a minister in congregations and a university chaplain. As an academic, he chaired the Vic/Tas Synod’s Ministerial Education Board for six years and contributed to Synod and Presbytery committees, including the Admission of Ministers Committee and as Deputy Chair of the Ministry and Mission Committee.
